Description
The Sonobond SeamMaster is a thread-free ultrasonic sewing machine that bonds and seals synthetic fabrics and nonwovens. It produces sealed barrier seams used in protective clothing, medical disposables and body armor. The seam is formed by ultrasonic energy and a pattern wheel, so no needle or thread is needed and the seam stays sealed against liquids. It is supplied as a table-mounted unit with a separate ultrasonic power supply.

Our previous laminator struggled with a 1.6 metre width, and the new one handles it without wrinkles. Roll loading uses a shaftless lift that one person can operate safely, which was a real benefit for our night shift crew. After nine months we have had no unplanned stops.

I manage quality for a hi-vis producer and I care mostly about bond strength repeatability. In monthly tests on the laminated roll we see very small variation, and the operator log shows temperatures well within the set range. That gives us confidence when customers audit our records. One small point is that exporting the temperature log needed a USB stick and a few extra clicks. Assistance from ClearEdge with the electrical connection diagram meant our local electrician finished the hookup in one visit.

Excellent energy performance. The insulation around the oven is thick and the outside stays cool to the touch, which our safety officer liked.

The finishing machine's drying section is efficient and the fabric comes out flat with no shrinkage variation across the width. Setup and cleaning are simple, so changeovers between colours take about half an hour. We also measured energy use on the dryer over one month and found it close to the estimate we were given, which helped when we prepared our annual utility budget. One manual was missing a translated section, and ClearEdge sent the corrected file promptly after we pointed it out.

Plant engineer here. What I liked most is the cabinet layout: everything is labelled, sensors are easy to reach, and the heaters are individually monitored, so diagnosing a cold zone takes minutes instead of hours. We had one thermocouple fail in the first year and a replacement arrived in two days.
